Mooseheart

You are now talking to the newest set of Family Teachers, Jack and Sarah, at Mooseheart. We will have high school boys and start in September!

Also, they were serving samples of Vodka at Sam's Club and my church played that stupid Kanye West song, Gold Digger after the service lat week- for what purpose? I have no clue but I didn't like it, I'll tell you that much. I guess it doesn't matter much since we will be leaving to go to our new job!!!! yeah!!!

Sarah - you have to come visit our new church after you move. It's small, and still meets in a house, but it's pretty cool! Downside - we have no band....but that's ok. Seriously - you have to come and then go out to eat with us after. Oh - and congrats - we are soooo excited for you, and to have you closer.
Welcome to the suburbs~ :)

Kanye West at church? You ARE kidding right???

Scott said...

In what context did they play that song?

Sarah said...

Well, they always play mnusic before and after the service, not always Christian sometimes is Christian. One time for fun they played Vanilla Ice and everyone laughed about it. But, this time right after the closing prayer, when everyone was leaving, they played Kanye West. Silly church. one of my friends said, 'oh well, I listen to it at home." which was an interesting argument but it just doesn't sit right with me. Call me old fashion, which our church is not.

It will be great to get to see you guys more often! Can't wait to have little jack here to play with while your at training.

Once when I went to Mars Hill church in Grand Ville MI and they sang U2's "ONE" song as a worship song. It was weird to me to say the least. I didn't sing along.

Crystal said...

We have got to get Melissa to start a blog!!!

Sarah said...

Yes, they did that once in our church too, I didn't sing along either.

You know Jon K. and the worship leader at Mars Hill used to be worship leaders together at Willow and are great friends (also really amazing musical artists). So that explains a lot. People sure do love the Bono at Willow crazy style.

that's cool Sarah. My Mom grew up at Mooseheart and she had one AMAZING teacher named Mae Miller who left a huge impact on her life. Unfortunately there were a lot more horrible people there then good ones at that time. She has many horrifying stories from that place. But I know it has changed a lot. It's incredible the oppourtunity you have to really change someones life and show them love. I'm excited for your job! I thought about doing that a couple years ago but decided in the end I was too imature at the time...probably still am! =)
BTW... this one time I was at a Church and they sang One as a worship song and I totaly sang along...and this other time I was at a U2 concert and they sang 40 as a worship song and it was one of the most powerful experiences of my entire life! I heart Bono 4-ever! I guess I'm at the right church for me! I heart Willow Creek! =)

Hey Steph my comment was in no way meant to insult Willow or Mars or my two VERY favorite worship leaders. I just simply thought it was a bizarre thing to sing a U2 song as a worship song is all. I know you love Bono and I respect that. I just hope you can respect that I don't. Seriously I love you and I just didn't want you to think I said that in a mean spirited way (if you read it you can tell I was being friendly and even complimented my 2 favorite worship guys and when I said, "People sure do love THE Bono CRAZY STYLE" that it sounded soft and bubbly and not insultie it was only my dumb opinion =D) and I'm sure that you didn't but just in case. =) I only want to clarify because of our past spiffs on this.

Warmly very warmly,
Your favorite

Hi Sarah!!!

PS I'm glad I'm your favorite and that you love me more than Bono because for you that is saying a LOT!! So thanks good buddy!

Crystal, I love how when someone disagress with you, you apologize for something or anotherm it cracks me up every time. I can hear your voice saying it :P

Steph, I have heard that back in the day there were some not so good people there. They have made major steps to change that. Did you know that there are phones around campus that if at any time any student feel threatened or see something etc they can dial 3111 and it goes right to the supervisors office and they report it. I thought that was a good idea. There are many more things they have established. Also, there used to be basically no training for family teachers and now there is 3 weeks worth. They stressed to us that we are there to protect the kids and if we were coming there for any other reasons to leave then because we would be hurting the entire community.

Thanks for the comment!

No worries Crystal! I totally respect your right to have your own opinion. I tried to say that in the e-mail I sent you last night, sorry if I didn't make that clear =( I don't want any hurt feelings. I was just "sharing" my own Bono loving opinion! =) Also I really did not want anyone to think the post on my blog was in response to this conversation, it totally is NOT! It's in response to this other crazy haters blog. Who hates Rob Bell, Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, and Billy Graham...sheesh! SO I have decided not to take her seriously.

Sarah, that is so great about Mooseheart! We had heard things were a ton better. I think we even heard there was a DCFS office on campus! It's a beautiful campus! High School boys in general seem like one of the most challanging groups! Way to go! I salute your bravery!

Sarah said...

I've read some Bill Hybels, I have to say, not the biggest fan of his writings although I've never heard him speak. It's not that I disagreed with it, I just didn't really get into the book at all. I'm not necessarily one for a "mega-church." But, I'm not going to go around criticizing church leaders unless I know a lot lot lot more about them! :) And just because I'm not one for the mega church doesn't mean I don't like the people who go there, cause I like you guys! :)

and i like Billy Graham

Sweet Sarah I only apologize if I think I might have hurt someone’s feelings. I don't usually apologize for my opinions though. =oD (What does my voice sound like though??? I just wonder how you imagine me, do I have a manly voice, or a smokers voice (I don't smoke), or a kiddly voice, or a sexy low woman's voice...??? hahaha I just wonder. =oD lol)

I just wanted to make sure I did say something to Steph because we have gotten into some pretty bad arguments about Bono before. =o) And I love her so I just want to make sure we was kewl like that. =o)

I can't wait to read you book meme post!!!!
